LAZY......get your butt up any way!!!!

I haven't been on the same running routine that I have been on for 3 or 4 months so now I feel like I'm a LAZY ASS.  I normally run on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.  For some reason ever since my birthday over 2 weeks ago (which was on a normal run day) I have been thrown off my schedule and I feel like a total loser.

Well, tonight as tired and lazy as I was, I got my ass off the couch and went to the gym.  I didn't want to do anything that would over do it since I have a scheduled run with some other mom's tomorrow at 8am.  So I decided that I would just run a 5k instead of trying to do a run from my 5k to 10k app.  I was however, gonna try to improve on my 5k time of 33:25.4.  Which I did I ran 3.12 miles in 31.14, and this was on a treadmill.  (I believe it's harder to run for time on a treadmill since there is no visual incentive to go faster or try harder.)

I feel so good to have gotten that run in and getting myself off the couch.  I also have to remember to stop being so hard on myself.  I did run 4.2 miles on Sunday while pushing both my kids in a running stroller, which is an extra 60lbs.  Every time I start to get mad at myself, for not working out or running, I realize I  really am not doing bad.  I'm just on the same workout schedule. As long as I don't give up on myself, I'm good.

BTW, it seems to hold true for every 100 calories you want to burn you need to run a mile.  If you want to  eat junk food in the range of 1000 calories then you need to run 10 miles to burn in off.  Remember that.

Bad Week....but still moving forward

I have fallen behind on my 5k to 10k app by a week and a half, which is a little discouraging.  With my birthday a week ago and family plans due to my birthday I started to fall behind, then this week didn't start off great.  I went to the gym yesterday,Monday, with every intention to run my "week 2 run 2", I did my 5 min warm up and started my 12 min run when 8 minutes into my run the app tells me to start my brisk walk.  Ugg...some how I must have selected to do a "week 1" run.  Not sure what to do I stopped and made yesterday a weights day instead.  Today my kids were just not cooperating with our normal morning routine thus I missed my opportunity to get to the gym before work.

So tomorrow is Wednesday and I have a full day planned with errands that I might have to miss the gym in the morning.  I'm not too happy about that.

BUT, I can't be too hard on myself.  I did go out on a 5.7 mile run on Sunday with my new founded running friends from Facebook.  I just need to remind myself that I can't make excuses, because that is what they are.  But at the same time don't be too hard on myself, cuz life does happen.  I mean I'm still out preforming those sitting on the couch day after day.

Run with Me

If you read from my earlier post, I met a nice lady where I worked about 2 weeks ago.  Well through this great person I joined a "Run with Me" group on Facebook.  This group is great not only for motivation, running tips, but for actual group runs.

Today I went on my first "group run".  Some of us met a the local grocery store to carpool and drove down to Napa JFK Park (near the Napa Community College).  This group was planning on doing a 5 or 10 mile run.  I have never ran the entire time further then my 5k, I have done interval runs where I have gone 5.5 but never a full run.  So today I was planning on running the entire 5 miles and I did, and then some!

It was great meeting new people and having someone to race myself with when we started.  My first mile was a 9.18 minute mile.  Of course I didn't hold that pace the entire time, but I never let the group out of my site.  I even got so distracted at just following the person in front of me that I ran more then the 5 miles I had planned on running.  When I finished my "Run Keeper" app said I had ran a total of 5.7 miles at a pace of 10.41

If you haven't joined a running group yet, I highly recommend it.  I know I have just made some great friends and I know I have just found one more thing to full my new addiction to running.

Boston Marathon

I am just heart broken after today's events in Boston.  If you are a runner we are all going to wear any shirt you have gotten from one of your runs (5k, 10k you name it).

Today I was looking over some of my Facebook posts and I found this and had to share.....

Looks like I'm signing up for my first 1/2 marathon!!! I will be running in the Nike Women's Marathon in SF on October 20, 2013. But in order for me to run in this marathon I have to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. — with Jeannie Scala-Ledesma and 9 others.

Getting Excited Over Little Things *** Road ID

I'm so excited because today I got in the mail my Road ID!!!  I honestly don't think anything will ever happen where I will need it, but it's the idea that I am covered if it does.  Since my 3 year old son is also getting really excited to run and to run with me I got one for him too.  He loves it, "Way cool mom"!

If you don't already have one and you are a runner or do any sports I highly recommend getting one.  Think about it, you could be out and pass out from heat exhaustion, heart attack, dehydration, etc and hit your head making it hard to tell people around you any of your medical information or even emergency contact.

If you have kids they make a small kid size bracelet that personally I think would come in handy IF you are ever separated from your child at a big event (like state fair) or even your small neighborhood park.  My son's bracelet has his name and year he was born, my name and number, dad's name and number, NKA (no known allergies) and his medical number.  Again hopefully he'll never need to use it, but I know I will be so thankful he has it the ONE time it has to be used.

Team In Training aka TNT

I met this lady the other day where I work (she was wearing a marathon shirt) and since I was looking for people to join me in the June 30th run, Live Ultimate in San Francisco, I struck up a conversation with her.   She mentioned a running group she was in and that she would pass my information on to her friends.  If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have the team I have for the Live Ultimate run.

It gets even better.......

So because I stepped out of my comfort zone and made a new running friend I am now getting information and the opportunity to join Team In Training.  If you aren't familiar with TNT they help you get ready for a marathon or even a 1/2 marathon.  Certified coaches will expand your fitness level with workouts, nutrition and hydration clinics.  In the past 25 years and with more than $1.3 billion raised, TNT has helped LLS (The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) fund cancer treatments like chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, which have a significant impact on the lives of blood cancer patients.

This is important to me since my mom is a survivor of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  I don't know what I would do without my mom, and I don't want others to have to try to live without someone they love if they don't have to.  This will be my way of giving back and honoring my mom and the fight she faced and WON!!!

So now with only one 5k and one mud run under my belt, I am signed up for 3 more 5k's (one being a color run) and a 1/4 marathon and looking to add a 1/2 marathon to that list too.  I'm meeting with a coach this Friday and I'm hoping to sign up by my birthday.  So I'll keep you posted!!!

Here is more information in case you would like to sign up too.

New side effect of my running addiction

As I mentioned in the start of creating my blog, I have two little kids.  One at the age of 1 and the other is 3.  Well this weekend I did my second run which was a mud run and my son, Lucas, came with me.  This was the first time he got to see his mommy run.  I have been talking about it now for the past 2 months, but the first time he got to see all the excitement first hand.

Well, now the rest of the weekend and even today (Monday) he has been telling me that he is going to do a mud run.  I already have him signed up for 2 kids runs at two separate events that I am doing, Superheroes5k and Live Ultimate.  Lucas is so excited to not only run but get some of his own running bling too!!!

Here's a picture of Lucas wearing my bandanna as he is getting ready for his mud run today!!!  Thanks Mud Factor!

Highly recommend a MUD run!!!

I had so much fun yesterday.  I ran my first mud run the Mud Factor race, with my some of my closes friends.  The day started with a little nerves but as soon as it was time to GO I was so excited.  When I reached some of the obstacles I had to have some help as I didn't have the upper strength or I was just so short I couldn't reach or get the right hold etc.  Thankfully I was running my girlfriend, Sara, who not only had the upper body strength but is much taller then I am, and she helped me many times.

If you decide to run one of these style of runs, and don't have a friend like Sara to help you out, no problem, there are several strangers that help out too.  I had others that helped me here and there and many times that I helped others too.  It is a joint effort out there.

However, here are some tips for a great run....

* Wear carpi style pants but they type that are skin tight
* If you have long hair wear it in a bun
* Wear shoes that are mesh so the water and mud can get out
* If you can find mesh like cleats GET them!!!  The extra tread will be helpful.
* Heavy duty gloves to help with getting up some obstacles
* If they even make them, breathable small knee pads (see my knee picture and you'll see why)

Here are some pictures from my mud run.  FUN TIMES!!!!

Jeannie and I laughing it up at the end as we were SO covered in mud!

We'd do it again!!!

Looking for a running team

I would love to have a group of people or just girls to run with.  If you have a group of runners already and would love to have another, please let me know.  Otherwise, lets start one together!

I am also eager to do this one run Live Ultimate in San Francisco on June 30th.  I'm looking for a team of four girls OR a larger team of guys and girls.  If you live in a area and are interested let me know ASAP.  There is GROUPON but it expires on 4/5/13 at midnight (technically 4/6/13).  I believe to register as a team the actual registration has to be done with everyone's name at one time (by a team caption).  So if you are interested then let me know, get your groupon and then I'll register all of us as a team.

Excuses.....

We all have one BUT we don't have to listen or let them control us!!!!
